Septem, Auburn Hills, Mich. – The Jeep® brand continues to climb to new heights as it celebrates its 80th year, introducing the first electrified Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe along with the ultimate off-road Grand Cherokee, the new Trailhawk.įrom the moment the Jeep brand introduced the Grand Cherokee in 1992, by literally driving the SUV up the steps of Cobo Hall in Detroit and through a glass window, signifying the breakthrough premium SUV, it set a new industry benchmark and quickly became synonymous with upscale design and uncompromised capability. The new model has some big shoes to fill. All were comfortable and capable vehicles at a right price. The Trackhawk was just a monster and the Trailhawk had serious off-road capabilities. The fully loaded models always reminded of a Range Rover but half the price. The exiting Grand Cherokee is one of my favorite vehicles. But this may be my powertrain of choice for the Grand Cherokee – torque-y and efficient. It can tow up 6000 pounds, which is a bit less than 7200 max tow rating of the V8 model. It has the same powertrain as the Wrangler 4xe, which is to say it’s quite torque-y and more fun to drive than one may expect. The 4xe is the plug-in electric hybrid model. Let’s all pray for an SRT or Trackhawk model in the future. Two engine choices are still available, the 3.6 V6 and the 5.7 V8, both connected to 8-speed automatic transmissions. The Trailhawk is the one that’s most interesting to us. The Grand Cherokee is available seven different trims, in 4×2 and 4×4 versions. Two major models are available, the Grand Cherokee and the Grand Cherokee 4xe. Perhaps because more proportionate to what we have come to expect a Grand Cherokee to look like. In pictures, the shorter Grand Cherokee seems to look better than the stretched L.
I’ve seen many of the L models around the New England area but have yet to drive one.
This is the shorter, two-row version of the Grand Cherokee L, which has been available for some time.
The configurator for the all new 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee is up now.
